Hallym-Nagoya City Symposium ends with a resounding success

Hallym University Medical Center held 2023 Hallym University-Nagoya City University International Symposium (The 15th Basic-Clinical Translational Research Workshop) at Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital on May 18, 2023.


From Nagoya City University’s side, Dr. Kenjiro Kohri, Chairman of Nagoya City University, Dr. Kiyofumi Asai, President of Nagoya City University, Dr. Satoru Takahashi, Dean of Graduate School of Medical Sciences were among key participants who attended the joint symposium.


From Hallym University’s side, Dr. Hee-Sung Yoon, Executive Director of Ilsong Educational Foundation, Dr. Yong-Sun Kim, Chair Professor of Hallym University, Dr. Dong Joon Kim, Dean of Hallym University College of Medicine participated in the symposium.


Hallym University signed an MOU with Nagoya City University in November 2006 to promote exchanges of human resources and expert knowledge on basic and clinical medicine.


In this symposium, there were presentations and discussions on recent advances in physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, neurology, urology, and thoracic surgery. Moreover, the two institutions have shared the latest research trends and knowledge in Korean and Japanese medicine through lively discussions.

■ Session 1
1. Protamine promotes axon regrowth and improves motor dysfunction after spinal cord injury in mice
(Professor Tomoya Ozaki, Department of Neurotoxicology, Nagoya City University)
2. Helicobacter hepaticus augmentation triggers dopaminergic degeneration and motor disorders in mice with parkinson's disease
(Professor Eun Hee Ahn, Department of Physiology, Hallym University)
3. Machine learning trained with multi-atlas QSM to detect cognitive decline in Parkinson's disease
(Professor Haruto Shibata, Department of Neurology, Nagoya City University)
4. Prediction of Post-stroke Cognitive Impairment After Acute Ischemic Stroke Using Machine Learning
(Professor Min Woo Lee, Department of Neurology, Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital)

1. Role of glucagon-like peptite-1-secreting L cells in regulating peristalsis of rat proximal colon.

(Professor Seung Jin Ryu, Department of Pharmacology, Hallym University College of Medicine)
3. Establishment of NASH model and investigation for chemopreventive agents.
(Professor Xiaochen Kuang, Department of Experimental Pathology and Tumor Biology, Nagoya City University)
4. Regulatory mechanisms of DNA replication stress to maintain genome stability
(Professor Kyu Young Lee, Department of biochemistry, Hallym University College of Medicine)

1. Prevention of recurrence of pneumothorax and minimally invasive surgery for lung cancer.

(Professor Hong Gyu Lee, Department of Thoracic and Pediatric Surgery, Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital)
3. Diagnosis and treatment approaches to urologic cancer
(Professor Takashi Nagai, Department of Nephro-urology, Nagoya City University)
4. Various Application of Robotic Surgery in the Urology Field: Single Center Experience.
(Professor Myung Sun Shim, Department of Urology, Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital)


Dean Dong Jun Kim said “Over the past three years, we have all experienced an unexpected COVID-19 pandemic which has made us reflect once again on the importance of healthy living and the advancement of medicine, particularly in the fields of basic and clinical medicine. It is my firm belief that our joint symposium with Nagoya City University will help advance the vision of Hallym University and Hallym University Medical Center for the future.
