No.7501 Date2022-08-25 Hit 14131

A neurological research team of Professor Chulho Kim at Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital has finally been selected to lead the ‘2nd Project on Medical Twin Technology Development using actual data in 2022’ on August 25. The project is a part of the Public Healthcare Technology R&D Project, and Kim’s research team will receive 4.5 billion KRW in research funds for four years until June 2027.

Medical Twin is an applied technology of digital twin to the medical field. This technology is a state-of-the-art precision medical technology that creates medical twins, a virtual patient, in digital space based on the patient’s various medical data. Through AI simulation, the medical team can decide the optimal surgical method, predict treatment effects, and find a way of minimizing drug side effects.

Chuncheon hospital plans to develop and demonstrate a technology that diagnoses and predicts diseases in real-time based on 3D simulation analysis and deep-learning results by realizing the brain and cardiovascular condition of a patient suffering from the cardio-cerebrovascular disease in a virtual digital space.

It will form a consortium with Asan Medical Center, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Medical IP, and LN Robotics to develop high-end cardio-cerebrovascular twin technology and related software that can be used in the actual clinical field and work on medical device licensing.

“We look forward to providing universal medical service using medical twin, the cutting-edge future technology. We, especially, will do our best to contribute to enhancing the quality of medical service in Gangwon-do, a medically underprivileged area,” said Professor Kim.
