Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital held a ceremony on Friday, March 30 to celebrate Dr. Lee Su Kim’s 10,000th surgery for thyroid and breast cancer.

Approximately 100 people participated in the event, including Director Kyung-Ho Yu of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, Dr. Jung-Hyun Yang of Konkuk University Medical Center, and Eui-Young So of Ajou University Hospital, to celebrate Dr. Kim’s achievement.

Since 1993, Dr. Kim has conducted 4,002 breast cancer operations and 6,005 thyroid cancer operations. For the first time in Korea, he adopted monitoring of lymph node as the standard for cancer surgery in the nation.

Dr. Kim has served as a visiting professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the U.S. for two years in 2000, and has continued to study breast and thyroid cancers. As one of the few surgeons in Korea who are serving as active members of the American Association for Cancer Research(AACR), he announces his study results every year at the annual meeting.

In recognition of this achievement, he was named vice president of Korean Breast Cancer Society in 2013. He’s currently serving as the Chairman of the board of the Korean Association of Thyroid and Endocrine Surgeons (KATES).
