Nursing delegates of Hallym University Medical visited the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital(NYPH) in the U.S. from March 16 to 18, 2015. The delegates who attended this meeting were Director Jong-Ran Kim of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital and three nurses Ms. Miran Shin from medical intensive care unit, Ms. Jungmin Lee from general ward, and Ms. Sung Hee Ryu from the international healthcare center.
The delegates met the Vice Presidents Kari Mastro and Courtney Vose of nursing department and Director Maria-Beatriz Alvarez of social work department and went on a tour of NYP hospitals; the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Center, and Columbia University Medical Center. During the tour, HUMC nurses took a firsthand look at the cutting-edge facilities of the emergency department, intensive care units, a pediatric ward, the Sloan Hospital for Women, ambulatory clinics and global services.
The directors from each NYP unit welcomed the Hallym delegates and kindly explained the overall care system of each department. Nurses of both institutions shared information on their own nursing education system and their roles in the hospitals.
After the hospital tour, they discussed ways to start collaboration in nursing between Hallym and NYP. They agreed to hold the first joint Hallym-NYP nursing symposium in Korea in the autumn this year and to seek ways to continue their partnership.
Director Jong-Ran Kim said, “It was a great opportunity for us to see the top-class university hospitals in the U.S. and experience their advanced nursing care system. I was impressed with their patient-oriented services. I believe we will be able to upgrade our nursing services by working closely with NYP experts.”
