Dr. Jung-Taek Hwang performs the first arthroscopic surgery in Gangwon Province

No.4211 Date2014-07-03 Hit 26433

Dr. Jung-Taek Hwang of Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital’s bone and joint center successfully performed arthroscopic surgery on a patient in his 30s suffering from Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). This is the first time that arthroscopic surgery went success in Gwangwon Province.

Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a condition where the bones of the hip are abnormally shaped. Because they do not fit together perfectly, the hip bones rub against each other and cause damage to the joint. Sharp stabbing pain may occur with turning and twisting the hip. FAI does not only damage acetabular labral and the joint but it also causes hip arthritis. FAI can be detected by 3-dimensional CT and MRI.
