Dr. Gyu-Jong Cho, professor of emergency medicine at Hallym University Kangdong Sacred Heart Hospital, was appointed as a man of merit for cardiac arrest surveillance and received a Minister’s award by the Ministry of Health and Welfare at the 3rd International Resuscitation Symposium in The-K Seoul Hotel on April 16.
Dr. Cho earned this award in recognition of his active emergency medical care in regional public health. The MOHW especially acknowledged Dr. Cho’s accomplishment for actively promoting medical education on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and having been deeply involved in installment of automated external defibrillators (AED) system at public institutions.
“The chances of survival go up to 90 percent when a person who got heart attack gets CPR within 5 minutes after the cardiac arrest,” Dr. Cho said. “I want to continue CPR education for the public to ensure Korean society is fully capable of CPR.”
