Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital

Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital and the Hallym Burn Foundation invited Ms. Munkhbat Bujinlkhan, a 12-year old Mongolian girl with burn injuries to Korea in September, 2012 and offered her burn surgery and comprehensive treatment. The young Mongolian girl’s hips and pelvis had been burned by scalding water.

During her 3-week stay at the hospital, Dr. Jang-Hyu Ko, a plastic surgeon of the burn center successfully performed a skin graft and she could have a normal appearance like any other teenage girl.

The Hallym Burn Foundation and Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital joined “Medical One Asia Project” organized by Maekyung Media Group which is designed to bridge the medical divide in Asia.

Therefore, hospital’s burn care experts visited the National Trauma & Orthopedic Research Center, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from June 27 to July 1, 2012 to offer medical aid. Then they could meet Ms. Munkhbat Bujinlkhan and decided to perform a skin graft and reconstructive procedures at the hospital.

Through the Medical One Asia project, about 170 medical experts from various medical institutions visited 8 Asian countries; Laos, Vietnam, Mongolia, India, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Myanmar for medical aid in 2012. They treated 5,620 patients and carried out surgical procedures on 215 local residents.
