Kim Wins Scientific Award for Breast Cancer Study

No.2949 Date2011-06-13 Hit 29491

Dr. Lee-Su Kim and his team of the Breast Endocrine Cancer Center at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital have recently won a scientific award for their thesis on “GATA-3 as a New Prognostic Marker in Breast Cancer” at the 26th Academic Symposium of the Korean Breast Cancer Society(KBCS).

They succeeded in identifying that breast cancer patients with GATA-3 positive showed more significant improvement in their treatment than those with negative.

GATA-3 is a factor involved in human cell growth and differentiation. It is reported that the factor affects not only normal growth but also tumor development.

“This research is not just a finding of a new prognostic marker in breast cancer, but it could help doctors provide customized treatment to patients according to their characteristics of tumors,” Dr. Kim said.
