Kangnam Helps Multicultural Families Stay Healthy

No.2685 Date2010-11-01 Hit 31530

'Nanum,' the multicultural family support team, and the social work team of Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital opened a health care course on October 7 for married women of multicultural families and provided a program on ‘the multicultural family health education’ for migrants by marriage who live near the hospital on October 7.

This event was attended by 59 marriage migrants from China, Vietnam, the Philippines and Cambodia and their children who had been recommended by the multicultural family support organizations in Yeongdeungpo-gu.

The program was designed to help the attendees overcome difficulties with childbirth and raising children.

The program started out with welcome remarks by Dr. Yul Lee, director of Kangnam, followed by opening remarks by Dr. Young-goo Lee, the head of ‘Nanum’, lectured on ‘Emergency Measures for Infants and Young Children’ by Dr. Jee Hyun Lee of Pediatrics, and on ‘Vaccination for Kids’ by Dr. Jacob Lee of Infectious Disease.

After presentations, participants joined a question-and-answer session to seek solutions to bringing up their children. The hospital helped the participants focus on lessons by providing their kids with various exciting events such as showing animations, balloon art and face painting.

Dr. Konhee Lee of Pediatrics also gave children school supplies as gifts, hoping that they would grow up healthy. Besides, he vaccinated all participants against seasonal flus and the H1N1.
“It was a really good chance to get health information about how to deal with an emergency situation, and how to check the proper time for vaccination. Because most marriage migrants are not accustomed to Korean-style infant care. Thanks to flu shots, I would stay healthy in winter,” said Ru-wei Pang who participated in this event.

Meanwhile, 'Nanum', Kangnam’s multicultural family support team, has supported marriage migrants with hands-on activities in the hospital since last August, and worked on the front lines to promote the health of multicultural families.
