Hangang Joins Taipei Burn Camp

No.2601 Date2010-07-27 Hit 32712

One social worker and one nurse at Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital, and four Korean children with burns participated in the 15th annual event named ‘2010 Asia Burn Camp’ in Taipei from July 8 to 12, 2010.

Organized by the Children Burn Foundation of the Republic of China and held at the Atayal Resort, the camp was attended by about 265 child burn victims, and staff from the Republic of China, Canada, China and Hong Kong.

Held under the theme of “Hope,” the event was designed to help burn patients overcome their cultural differences and language gaps, to form bonds of sympathy through paintings, musical and dramatic performances, and games, and to help get over burns from their positive experiences.

A Korean kid said, “Although we had some problem with communication, I made friends and had fun with them. I learned a lot from other people who had more serious trouble than I had, but were more enthusiastic about this program. I want to participate in ‘the World Burn Camp’ next time.”

The Hallym Burn Foundation and the Burn Center of Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital are holding ‘The 5th Korea Burn Camp’ from August 13 to 14 this year. ’The World Burn Camp’ will be held in London, England, from August 20 to 30 this year. Four Korean burn patients plan to join the camp. Through the continued involvement in international burn camps, Hallym is expected to affect a more positive input into such international exchange programs in the future.
