Hallym, RDA to Develop Artificial Bones

No.1885 Date2008-12-01 Hit 30866

Hallym University Medical Center (HUMC) and the Rural Development Administration (RDA) signed a memorandum of understanding on research and development of artificial bones made of silk on November 28, 2008.

A total of twenty people from both organizations including Dr. Hae-Ran Lee, HUMC President, and RDA Administrator Soo-Wha Lee, participated in the singing ceremony at the RDA conference room.

The agreement would enable Hallym and the government agency to create a significant engine for future growth of agriculture through combining cutting-edge technology such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, and medical and life sciences. It will ultimately contribute to the promotion of national health and welfare. They are expected to work on developing artificial bones by utilizing silk which has so far been verified as a biomaterial.
