Hallym, Uppsala to Hold 1st Int'l Symposium in October

No.1697 Date2008-08-04 Hit 31742

Hallym University Medical Center (HUMC) will hold the first collaborative symposium with Uppsala University of Sweden on October 9, 2008, in Seoul. The symposium will focus on a theme, "Current Issues in Medicine and Surgery: From Bench to Bedside."

Four specific topics will include "Population Based Cohort Studies, Advances in Management of Head and Neck Cancer, Updates on Diabetes Mellitus and Neurodegenerative Diseases." They are expected to showcase the basic and clinical strengths of both institutions, which would lay a firm basis for future medical collaboration between the two in the days ahead.

The meeting will be convened at the Crystal Ballroom at the Lotte Hotel World. The facility is newly renovated to offer a more modern environment and the latest audio-visual equipment. Some 300 physicians and surgeons are expected to participate in the meeting.

This conference represents a commitment by both Hallym and Uppsala to the dissemination of their research findings and clinical experience to the audience. Hallym also plans to establish an international affiliation agreement with Uppsala.

Uppsala University, founded in 1477, is the oldest university in Scandinavia, northern Europe. For centuries, Uppsala has been holding an important place in science and medicine. Moreover, the university has played an essential role in shaping the Swedish culture and identity.

Last February, Hallym medical delegates led by Chairman Dai-won Yoon visited the Uppsala University to find a way to launch and promote academic exchange initiatives, followed by Dr. Kjell Oberg's visit to Hallym in spring this year.

Their constant efforts for future cooperation have finally brought about a tangible and fruitful result --- the first Hallym-Uppsala Symposium in October.
